An Appaulling State Of Affairs

For about five minutes I actually thought that Rand Paul of Kentucky might be the kind of antigovernment senatorial candidate the people could get behind. We’re all looking for someone who will take on the status quo in Washington, D.C. Then Paul showed his true pro-business colors. First he admitted to “having problems” with the 1964 Civil Rights Act because it prevented private businesses from discriminating against blacks and other minorities.

Then, when referring to the Gulf oil spill, he said “accidents happen” as a way of dismissing BP’s culpability. Mr. Paul seems oblivious to the kind of horror blacks experienced in the South due to segregation. And he ignores the fact that the aforementioned “accident” appears to be negligent homicide (11 workers perished) and that it may ultimately kill all marine life in the Gulf. To those voting in Kentucky this November, please take note: Rand Paul is the kind of libertarian who will always side with Big Business over labor. Remember that when you enter the voting booth.
